Intake Workshop

Overviews Intake, a lightweight package for building and effectively using data catalogs with Python. Intake helps with finding, investigating, loading and disseminating data. Participants will learn the fundamentals of using Intake to connect with data sources in practical situations.

PREREQUISITES

Participants should have a decent working knowledge of the Python language and, in particular, using standard Python tools for data analysis (notably NumPy, Pandas, Jupyter). No prior exposure to Intake is assumed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Explain and use Intake to create light-weight data catalogs and connect to other data catalogs
2. Ingest data as a consumer into a Python script
3. Create, manage, & maintain data sources & parameters through an Intake-connected catalog
4. Deploy Intake to simplify data access, querying, & ingest by data consumers in Python
